four Maori and Pacific Students on stage preforming

Auckland, New Zealand – SAE Auckland is excited to announce the introduction of songwriting courses in Te Reo Māori and various Pacific languages, set to launch in 2025. This groundbreaking initiative aims to celebrate and preserve the rich cultural heritage of Aotearoa and the Pacific Islands through the transformative power of music.

Understanding that music serves as a vital medium for cultural expression and connection, SAE Auckland is committed to providing students with the opportunity to explore their creativity while honoring their linguistic and cultural roots. These courses will enable aspiring songwriters to deepen their understanding of their heritage, craft original works, and share their unique stories with the world.

“We believe that music has the power to unite people and celebrate diversity,” says Head of Songwriting, Dr Stephen Small. “By offering courses in Te Reo Māori and Pacific languages, we hope to empower our students to embrace their cultural identities and express themselves through the art of songwriting.”

The courses will be designed for individuals at all skill levels, from beginners to experienced musicians looking to expand their repertoire. Students will engage in hands-on learning experiences that combine traditional and contemporary songwriting techniques, guided by expert instructors with deep cultural knowledge and musical expertise.

SAE Auckland invites all interested individuals to join this exciting journey of creative exploration and cultural celebration. For more information about the songwriting courses and enrollment details, please visit SAE.ac.nz or contact Study@sae.ac.nz
